I have recently seen many ISP's offering a
web interface to configure users pop accounts
(e.g. create and delete them).
Id like to build a similar script for my server..... Any Ideas?
The server is running PHP3 and RedHat 6.

Your application is restricted to creating and deleting POP accounts or you also want a web based mail interface to POP Mail box?

I can already make web Interfaces to read and send mail. Its the actual creation
(and preferably deletion) of Pop accounts that im having problems with. I havent managed to find a single reference anywhere.

I am working on a similar project. I am supposed to make a web based mail reader for POP3 accounts. Can you suggest how to go about it?
I will work on the mail account creation part and see what i can come up with. This is ofcourse possible. I'll work on how it can be done.

Ages ago I created a pop based reader using Perl. Its at http://www.spartanweb.co.uk/mail/mail.php3
Excuse it. I was only learning then.
When I have a working PHP version
(Give me a few days, ill mail it to you).
If you want the code for the perl based one let me know.
Are you wanting to send email as well?
The Perl one doesnt do this
(Didnt want people abusing it). The PHP one will.

i am not interested in the perl version. I would like to use perl as a last resort only. I would prefer the PHP version.
What i would like more is that we work on this reader together. You can give me certain parts of the project to develop. This will enable speedy development.
We can in fact invite even more people to join us and come up with a good public domain software.

My main problem is the actual creation / deletion of POP boxes. Once I have a working reader (Give me a few days), ill email it to you. Obviously it will be written in PHP.
This sounds like a very promising project.
Anyone else Interested?

Yes, I would be interested in helping with this project. I have been looking for a similiar tool myself. What means would we be using to store messages (sent, old, folders, etc)? I began working on a project like this in Perl with DBI and MySQL set up to save messages in a databases. Is this what you are thinking also? Let me know what I can do.

Im actually not looking to save the messages themselves... although it certainly has potential.
My main concern is the creation and deletion of POP accounts.
However, this would be a nice feature for future projects, so am interested. MYSQL sounds like a good idea for storage as well.
I can so far connect to a pop account and list the messages.
Tomorow ill be adding the ability to get messages.
Deleting them is easy.

I would like to check out your code for this to see how you are building it. firstname.lastname@example.org
I will be glad to work on the mail storage system as I am very familiar with both php and mysql. Thanks.

Since all the three of us feel that the idea is good and should be worked upon..let us start right away. Let us decide on a project coordinator and get things moving.
Any one else who is also interested should also pitch in. I am sure all if us can come up with a project that is good and open source.

It will be great pleasure if you allow me to work along with you for this project.
I am newbe but with your help can help you people a lot.
