    Hi,
I'm working on a simple form where visitors can select a file on their local machine
When they submit the form, a mail-message should be sent to the webmaster, with that file as an attachment.
Does anyone know how to to this?
(in php would be great, but perl is also possible)

    Thanks in advance!

    EyE

It is possible with PHP. However the code is quite complicated so it is best to use someone else's code. When you want to add attachements to files mailing from PHP becomes somewhat more complicated since for instance you have to include mime-type description.

In Professional PHP programming by WROX there is an example of an application in PHP that does just what you are asking. However there are also numerous sites where you can easily find an example class. A good place to start is the official PHP site: www.php.net

Their is an article in the February 1998 issue of WebTechniques written by Rasmus Lerdorf that can help you with this. It covers uploading files via php3. If you know Perl there was an article in the March 2000 (maybe it was February) issue of WebTechniques that covers exactly what you are trying to do, written by Randal Schwartz. If you can find these old copies then you will have your answers. Good luck.

There is a PHP3 form mailer script that will let you send file attachment here:
    http://www.heyes-computing.net/scripts/

The script title is Form Processor.

    Description:
"A generic form processor. Supports all form elements, required fields, redirection after submit, file uploads. One script can drive many forms. Can also use templates for the "thank you" page and the email that is generated so that the forms' input can be displayed.

    Regards,
    JP
