    Hi,

    i am using PHP connecting orcale8i which contains some Chinese characters. However, i cannot get such character from that database.

    i've changed environment variables:
    1. PutEnv("LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHT16BIG5");
    2. $HTTP_ENV_VARS["LANG"]="AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHT16BIG5"

    The PHP program still displays
    ?? insteads of Chinese characters.

    Is there any more setting required?

    Thanks in advance,
    Yuki

    Are you sure the data is big5? Have you tried other chinese character sets/encodings?

    One more thing, the value for the environment variable looks a little suspect to me. Not that I know much about these things, but I might also try a comma instead of a period, just for grins:

    AMERICAN_AMERICA,ZHT16BIG5

    And maybe putting the Chinese spec first, or leaving the American spec off to see what happens. Just for grins:
