I've a question about running php3 on my apache server. I just installed
apache 1.3.11 and php3 on my linux (red hat) system. Both files were rpm. My
server works but when I load a php3 file netscape displays the source of the
file in stead of the results. Whats wrong with my server? How can I
configure my server so php3 files are interpreted correctly? I don't know
    very much about linux.

Make sure everything in your httpd.conf is correct, such as the module loading (if you're using mod_php) or the Application assessment, and all the AddType's you want to have parsed by PHP.

Quick example of a common setup for PHP in httpd.conf (for CGI app):
    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana,Arial,Helvetica">quote:</font><HR>
    ScriptAlias /php/ "/path/to/php"
    Action x-httpd-php4 "/php/php"
    AddType application/x-httpd-php4 .php4
    [/quote]

you've gotta 1. Make Sure apache is compiled to use php
    2. set up your httpd.conf to read .php as php

the easiest tutorial (and one that Actually Worked for me)was this:
