I installed gd-1.8.3, jpeg-6b and zlib-1.1.3
I configured php-4.0.1pl2 with following:
./configure --with-apache=../apache_1.3.12 --with-gd=../gd-1.8.3 --with-jpeg-dir=../jpeg-6b --with-zlib=/usr/local
Then I compiled apache-1.3.12 to use php as a shared modude.
The ./configure with all the correct options works fine.
make returns in an error:
size of symbol gdImageColorResolve changed from 274 to 266 in gd.o.(gd.c)
Aparently the variable gdImageColorResolve is defined two times but with different sizes.
Does anyone have ideas on how to get rid of this error?
It perhaps has to do with the gd.c file in php-4.0.1pl2/ext/gd directory and the gd.c file in gd-1.8.3 directory.

Any reason why you doing this? Where is your 'gd2copypal' at? If it's in /usr/local/bin, then --with-gd should be =/usr/local
The following from line: 434 of configure script:
--without-gd Disable GD support
-with-gd[=DIR] Include GD support (DIR is GD's install dir). Set DIR to "shared" to build as a dl, or "shared,DIR" to build as a dl and still specify DIR."
Are you sure it's not "--enable-ftp"?
