I'm looking for a way to create a PHP page that "stays alive" and updates (lines are added to the end) when other scripts make requests. I know this can be done, I've seen it work on some "on-line chat" sites, but can't figure out how to do it.
I'd especially appreciate a link to an exaple or a code snippet, since I am quite a beginner at this.

i have programmed many scripts ... but i tink there is no standard way of making your script running all time, cause the php-interpreter kicks the script after it is processed and awaits then the next one.
If anyone have an solution for the problem, please email me too.

I think you would probably have to use Perl, or some language of that sort, just simply because of the way PHP works, you also might try interacting Flash and PHP, I know I saw a real-time chat script done in ASP and Flash, so I see no reason PHP couldn't do the same thing.
