    you can do this in different ways...

    Normally i do something like this ...i take few characters from the username and append with an auto-generating number.so password will be unique for each user..

    Where $memberID can be any piece of data about the owner of the password:

    $encryptThis = "$memberID".time( )."$memberID";
    $encryptedPassword = crypt( $encryptThis );

    Simple enough. Just a timestamp (which is unique for every (milli?) second of the day, with some other static data appended to the beginning and end. Then use php's crypt() function to encrypt it. There are plenty of variations on this. I hope this gets you started with one of your own
