    DB_Shadow error

    I am running RH9 and postgresql 7.3.3. I have been doing an initial install.
    Make and Make install went fine.
    Su pgsql

    I got an error when entering this;
    /usr/local/pgsql/current/bin/initdb –D /home/pgsql/data
    It runs and then sez that Data not done and it ends.

    Then I get the db_shadow error when I enter this:
    /etc/rc.d/init.d/pgsql start

    I know that I have a problem with my original db \ data but I’m not sure which way to go. Also, I dl’d the data sets from the FTP but haven’t unpacked or installed them. I was looking to get the DB set before adding test data.

    Any suggestions appreciated,

    Can you post the exact error messages you get?

    I've never seen that before, but perhaps these links may help:

    I'm still tracking this problem, but...

    Reviewing the links you posted showed that I had permissions on the /TMP file that needed corrected to
    CHMOD 777 /tmp

    Now, I'm fighting permissions on the useraccout and am about to blow the pgsql user out and re-adding it.

    thanks for the post.
