Error - too many client ??

Got the following error in the PostgreSQL database ... when running pg_dump...

A similar error was received by the end-users, application tier (JBoss) also...

Quote:

pg_dump: [archiver (db)] connection to database "dev" failed: FATAL 1: Sorry, too many clients already



Sorted it out temporarily by bouncing the database.

Any idea how this can be sorted out ?

Well, it seems simple to me: if you have too many clients you need to raise the maximum number of connections in the postgresql.conf file. On a standard install, it defaults to 32 clients max, but on most modern servers PostgreSQL can handle many more connections.
