    Connecting postgres to ems pgadmin II..

    Hi guys,

    Code:
    OS : Win 2K ,sp3, build 2195
    DB : 7.3.2

    have an issue here, I can connect to my postgres database thru the cygwin utility/unix emulation...

    I do have postmaster service installed but can't start it automatically..

    I have to run this command to run it...
    Code:
    Administrator@cc345772-a ~
    $ /usr/bin/pg_ctl -D /usr/share/postgresql/data -l logfile start
    postmaster successfully started

    Administrator@cc345772-a ~
    $ psql
    psql: FATAL: Database "Administrator" does not exist in the system catalog.

    Administrator@cc345772-a ~
    $

    Trying to connect to it thru any other client utility doesn't help as it looks for a user and I guess I can connect as a superuser, like this...

    Code:

    Administrator@cc345772-a ~
    $ psql nickgres

           \q to quit

    nickgres=# select * from weather
    nickgres-# ;

    nickgres=#
    As you can see I can query the table's etc and carry out all the stuff thru the cygwin console..

    But connecting thru a utility such as ems pgmanager or pgadmin II doesn't work as I don't know which user/pwd to give(have tried the local NT admin password).

    My two worries are:

    [1] How do I automate the postmaster startup thru the services.
    and
    [2] How do I connect thru other client management tools.

    Thanx much in advance....

    Ok people issue 2(client connectivity) solved, now I can also edit my databases thru the pgAdmin II or EMS manager console.

    Issue one remains still open.

    any takes on this one?

    TIA

    Thumbs down Postmaster service remain a mystery...

    Have reinstalled the postmaster but can't get that darn service to start, keeps failing with a

    Code:
    C:\WINNT\system32>net start postmaster
    The postmaster service is starting.
    The postmaster service could not be started.

    The service did not report an error.

    More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534.
    Not really helpful.

    These are my reg keys parameters...

    Code:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\postmaster\Parameters]
    "AppPath"="/usr/bin/postmaster"
    "AppArgs"="-D /usr/share/postgresql/data -i logfile"
    "TermSig"=dword:00000002
    "Shutdown"=dword:00000001

    Anyone who was able to solve this issue???
