    Any look and feel for visual output is OS and library dependant, there is no way anyone here can help without that information.

    It is not that old programmers are any smarter or code better, it is just that they have made the same stupid mistake so many times that it is second nature to fix it.

    Assuming an ANSI terminal mode, the following character sequence will make your cursor blink:
    ESC[5m where ESC is the ASCII escape character (i.e.) 27
    Code:
    #include <stdio.h>

    void blink(void)
    {
      printf("%c[5m", 27);
    }

    void normal(void)
    {
      printf("%c[0m", 27);
    }

    int main(void)
    {
      blink();
      printf("Hello world\n");
      normal();
      printf("Normal text\n");
      return 0;
    }
    See http://sunsite.nus.edu.sg/pub/os2/os...aq.2.0062.html for more ANSI escape sequnces. I know the page is for OS/2, but the ANSI terminal is emulated in a lot of operating systems.
