What code have you written and what errors/warnings is the debugger putting out?
You're more likely to get some help after that than someone actually bothering to do your work for you. At least make an attempt at it first.

If you're "very bad" in C, then perhaps you shouldn't be taking a class in which there's an assignment of this type? It's probably early in the semester, you could always withdraw.

Or, like Clifford says, you can actually work at it.

the complexity of this assignment looks to be kinda deep in a programming curriculum i did a similar assignment in my operating systems class senior year). how did you even make it this far when you are "very bad" at c?
why do i have the feeling any help we give will be futile?

Nobody will help you in a school assignement unless you prove that you have actually worked at it.

    Hi, I'm the lecturer

Thanks for the approach you took in responding.

By the time they get to this assignment they are supposed to have a full
semester of C and 2 of Java and be working concurrently on advanced C
programming. As you would have noted:

    1) I practically gave pseudo-code for a substantial part of the assignment

    2) What I left out was the locations of the semaphores to control access to
the critical regions -- that's the point of the assignment, after all

    3) I also provided a set of wrapper functions for the Solaris semaphore and
shared memory functions designed to hide some of the ugly details

I don't believe it was unreasonable, particularly since they had the specification
since 27 August for an assignment due 12 October. And it was the second
assignment in the subject. The first was a "plumbing" exercise.

I am a bit annoyed to see my copyright material posted in a public forum, though.

Frankly, we don't feel it does the student any good if we do their homework for them. We know it doesn't do their coworkers any good if they get a job under false pretenses. Finally, I'm sure most of us don't appreciate being used as zero-dollar freelancers.

As it turns out, there's only one Anthony in the class list. So
    it's not "rocket surgery" ;)

But if the text of the assignment spec could be removed, that would
    be great.

    Thanks,

    -Don

    Hello everyone,

As Don has mentioned, there is only ONE Anthony in this course and that would be me.

A friend of mine drew my attention to this thread and i could not let this pass.

I would appreciate it if you could forward his email address on to me so we could have a nice *friendly* chat. (I can understand if you cant either....but this IS a public forum)

I would have to say though: Using a name that is not your own to post on forums is all good and well, many people do it all the time. BUT bring my name into disrepute and i will have your balls on a platter.

    How very gutless of you.

I may be new, but I know when there's an epic internet thread in the making. A professor catching a student sharing copyrighted material to cheat in a class using a false identity. It doesn't get any better.

hopefully you squared with the big Don to make sure that you didn't take for the imposter, real_anthony.

What a gutless coward the OP.... he'll make a fine example in the workforce one day.

    Thanks mate!

The squaring is in progress (i really hope he checks his emails before the exams!). Last thing i want is an irate lecturer just itching to flick marks off! He seems pretty cool though...

And yeah, i was wondering about that myself...What happens when he graduates?

Well all i have to say is i hope any potential employers have SOME sense about them.

Crazy way to find out about this forum, eh?

I might even annoy you guys for some tips at some later stage! :D

Oh and for the record, i count myself a fairly competent C programmer (not an expert by far! but i *think* i know enough to get me out of trouble)

Indeed quite an epic scenario, what I don't get is how the student can be so damned dumb as to post the whole assignment spec when it is bound to be found by other students doing searches for keywords.

What he will do in the workforce is post his work requirments up on here haha, imagine if he got some top secret job and posted the project here! GG national security breach.
