    registry mechanism in linux


    Hello,

    I want to check my software version when ever it satrts
    . Is there any facility in linux ,just like
    registry in windows to store key for the version

    There is no such thing as a registry in the *NIX world. Your options are, either save your version number in the binary, or put it in a config file.

    Use your favourite text editor and type it in!

    Use fopen() to open the file, fgets() or fread() to read in the lines from the config file and fclose() to close the config file.

    If you want to, you can also encrypt the information before storing it into your config file.
