    system call using cgi

    hello,

    I am trying to make a system call

    eg system ("echo hello");

    using cgi C programming. I need the system call to be executed on my linux shell i.e. hello should be displayed

    This works when I run the executable on the linux (server) shell however there is no response on my server when I run the cgi on the browser.

    Please help

    Why not use printf ("Hello");

    Also, since you're trying to run this from a browser, are you printing the proper headers first? At the very minimum, you'll need to print a content-type header first, before you print anything else.

    hello,

    I cannot use printf("hello") since that displays it on stdout which is on the web browser. I want it to run on my linux (server) shell.

    I have included all the appropriate html headers.

    Thanks

    Have you tried using absolute paths in your system call then? As in:
    system("/bin/echo hello");

    Also, is it possible that your apache is running chrooted?

    including "/bin" also didnt work.

    I am using thttpd to run my server. I removed "chroot" from the thttpd_config file when installing thttpd.

    Thanks

    Wait a second... are you expecting to see the output on your console of the webserver?
