    Programming a daemon for freeBSD

I want to program a daemon that is simply listens on a udp port for messages and replies with info from a mysql bd.
I have some knowledge how to program mysql part, but I have no idea how to program a daemon that uses sockets (or is it something else??) for FreeBSD platform.
I'm from windows world - I could make something similar easily for ms platform (not as a process, but as a console app)
Please, give me directions - where to find tutorials, and for sure - where to find introductory tutorial into unix programming

Ps. I'm completely new to FreeBSD
    Thanks for any information.

I don't remember the URL, but the UNIX Programming FAQ is just full of information that you'll find useful for this. All of the stuff that you'll need to know about network programming and writing a daemon are discussed there, with examples. When I had to learn the exact same thing this FAQ helped me out a lot.
