How do I use code tags to post?
Is it simply a matter of formatting my text with tags, a bit like HTML, or do I need some kind of external program or utilty?

Re: Code tags
Bingo! Use square brackets ( ) instead of HTML's "angle brackets" ( <> ) and use the tag name "code".
Some other tag names that work here are:
i -- for italicize
b -- for bold
u -- for underline
url -- for a URL
quote -- for a quotation (does not preserve indentation)
php -- like code, but also throws in syntax highlighting.
Find a post that uses code tags and click on its "quote" button. Within that quote you will see a number of tags being used, including the code tags. Quit out of the reply by back-arrowing.

You can use the tool bar buttons above the post edit box. # inserts code tags, PHP does something similar but colour syntax highlights the code.
Hover over these buttons to see what the various tags do.
