Learn Windows programming, or at least using the Win32 API, and you will find out.
They are not variables, but rather they are data types.
BOOL is the boolean data type. True of false. (that is not a question)
In Windows, objects are accessed by a unique identifier called a "handle". Create an object and you get a handle back. Then from that point on every time you do something with that object you use its handle.
HWND is a handle to a window.
