Skills Swap- my geek skills for your skills making pretty things
I'd like to find someone that's a talented designer to create a logo/color scheme for my personal resume site (www.geekuprising.com). I'd be willing to swap equivalent amounts of time doing:
Coding, in order of my skill level:
perl and/or mod_perl,
General linux stuff-
custom apache/perl/PHP installs, other software package installs and tweaks,
a WHOLE lot of experience.
Basically, I work full-time (and as a consultant) managing a number of linux based web servers and coding large web applications with perl and mod_perl. Everything you can imagine that goes into this (DNS, mail, configuring list-servers, building servers from scratch, compiling applications, debugging, trouble shooting, coding, backups, etc.) I do, and have done for 5+ years.
Note- THERE WILL BE NO MONEY EXCHANGED. You spend six hours creating my logo/color scheme, I owe you six hours doing pretty much anything related to a linux based web server or perl/PHP web application.
I have a real fondness for creating web bots and spiders, if that's of interest to anyone. I WILL NOT CODE FOR SPAMMERS, PORN MERCHANTS, or any other unscrupulous purposes, ever.
Please PM me if you're interested, with URLs of your work. If you're interested in my qualifications, just look at my posts around this forum and my resume site.

For designers - as a senior member who has seen a lot of hero's posts the only thing I can say is that you better be really good for this trade to be fair, as hero is probably the best perl developer this forum has.
And you know I mean that.

I saw your post and I can say that I would be interested in designing your logos. First let me tell you that I am a college student studying digital media. I graduate in less than 4 weeks, and I am looking to get into the industry. I will do you your logos for free. In return, all I would ask is for future considerations on paying projects. My website is currently down for a rehaul, but if you want I can email you some work to check out. let me know if you are interested MKELLAR1@hotmail.com

I don't want to overrun this thread with loosely related posts - but as someone who has personally learned an awful lot from Hero, both from directly receiving answers to my own questions and reading his responses to other people's, I would like to go one better and say he IS the best I've seen on the forums.

I've designed a few logos which can be seen here.
I run a site called Typographica which runs on Movable Type and is in need a of a few backend adjustments/additions (like a search) which are probably really simple, but are prohibitive to a code-clueless print designer, like myself.
I'd love to do a swap.

Thanks for the kind words and offers to help, folks. Depending on how this works out, I might try asking to swap again. . .
I've selected who I'm going to be working with for this project.
Unfortunately, I've been a little behind on responding simply because my linux box that hosts my personal sites got fried last weekend (the lesson- AVOID SLEEVE BEARING FANS!!). I should be back on track soon as I rebuild it today.
