Average price for a web site design

Hey,

I was wondering what is the average price for a web site design. I'm pretty sure it depends on the size of the web site so let's say it's a medium one.

Types a sites

Well actually I'm looking for three types of sites.

- Company site
- Web community site
- Music band site ( small site, 90% of static content )

Are you wanting a site done for you?

Or do you want to develop a site for someone else and want to know what to charge?

If you are interested in having the site done for you. I would be interested in helping you. I am only a freshman when it comes to web development, but I think my work passes off as being proffesional to the viewer.

Send me a private message if you are looking for someone to help develop your site and we can setup a price that is extremely reasonable, I could always use the experience.

If you are just looking for a price to quote someone else, disregard this post.

Size of site

Let's say a small site ( from 10 to 15 pages ).

I'm not saying anybody here is bad, but 5-8 hours for a 2 page site is way too low if you want anything besides the most basic layout. Doesn't matter if you're talking tables or css, there's a lot more involved. you get what you pay for.

i know. my point is that's not enough time for a 2 page site, let alone a 10-15 page one

I did a small music site and charged them £200, including the first two years of the domain, which is £6 btw, so £200 is like $120 now, but was about $150 or something.

That was for 2 main pages, then the rest was in a frame that changed and was just plain text or a few pictures. Total pages: 7, (2 + 5 small pages). Total time: 12 hours ish I think, but I already had the logo and text and just did the main theme and a few graphics.... Sites not online anymore though...

well it depends on the size as you mentionned, but could take days, or even weeks. depends really. Ive seen people coding just a news script in about 10 hours...

If you only want a complete company site, along with a community site, I can do the whole thing for $300...

Are't we forgetting the client interogation phase?
Y'know finding out what the site is actually meant to achieve, and do behind the scenes, and trivia like branding graphics?

I'm sure I can create a 20 page site within minutes.
It'd probabaly be not good for much though!

I'd do it for hmmm £35 / hour plus travelling.
Which may price myself out of the market unless you live in "the Northern Home Counties" !!!!!
(or have designs to scan & email! )
