hi,
during my spare time, i would like to do some sort of programming just for the sake of leisure and just for the sake of havig something to do during idle moments. now, i have tought of creating my own operating system... (this is a tough job i know... and its kinda like a very difficult and long task to fulfill, anyway its just for fun) now, the problem is, i don't know where to begin programming it, what to use, and everthing about doing it... do you have any ideas, or do you know of any resources that would be sufficient to guide me in this little hobby??? thanks... ![]() |

don't mean to sound mean or unconstructive, but if you're not sure how to even start programming one, there is a very slim chance you'd be able to get very far. there are quite a few discussions before about this, try having a search.
thanks, computer |

What's this got to do with Project Help Wanted?
Go buy yourself a C/C++ book at start there. Look how to make a "hello world" program first, then build other programs, slowly working up in complexity. ---John Holmes... |

I gotta say today that I took a college visit and during one of their computer engineering classes today, the students were required to build their own motherboard.
Not just buy one, but put all the chips on there and understand how it all works. A bit off topic, but just thought I'd share. I don't think you'll get too far as I've thought of doing it, but realized the impracticality. I don't mean to sound harsh here, but why don't you program something a bit more useful? |

![]() I think this guy means what the bare basics of making an OS are. I have programmed for many many years and I wouldnt know how to find out what PCI elements are installed, etc. The stuff u need to know how to do when you are making an OS |

designing your own OS is actually pretty simple anymore.
first, find a distribution of linux and start distributing it yourself under a corporate name -- say "TDP" could be your corporate name. after a couple years, claim that you own said operating system and sue everone else. unless someone already thought of this idea, this should work great! |

arghhhh some people are nasty. Sorry buddy I can't help you on this one but I can say, be nice people! It's not about vision it's just about expanding your own abilities on the computer and there's nothing wrong with that... unless you think you know it all already and there's nothing left to learn, in which case you're arrogant and egotistical. Good luck with your hobby

What a project. To start out you need to define what you want your operating system to do? What is wrong with exising operating systems, what do you want to do differently?
Good luck.
