Seeking Compatible Participant(s)
Seeking Compatible Participant(s)
For Innovative New Website We are creating a unique new site dedicated to the rapid and free interchange of information and high level discourse between serious pundits, professionals, and hoi polloi of all walks and dispositions. We will be using a php-NUKE-based front page in a team-blog format coupled with a phpBB-based BBS open to a larger participant base. This will be joined shortly by a chatroom and articles section. We are starting with the basic open-source software, but have numerous enhancements in mind to develop a more seamless and powerful tool for access to available resources and development of our own knowledge base. We would be more than happy to discuss more specifics with any qualified inquirant. Our hope is to develop this into a major, public supported and not-for-profit "think tank", of the prestige of CATO, AEI, Oxfam, or TIMBRO. However, the umbrella organization itself will carry no doctrine, and take no position of advocacy on any matter beyond the free exchange of information, rather like the classical ideal of a university. This will not preclude, however, advocacy caucuses forming within it. We are currently open to inquiries leading to consideration for inclusion on our team of bloggers and article writers. This will be an elite group. The initial tentative limit is 30 individuals. They will join our staff (contributors by default) to form the intellectual kernel of the organization. The successful considerants will possess demonstrated record of superior non-dogmatic cognitive and argumentative skills, a strong proficiency with critical reading and writing in English and the desire to exercise that proficiency on a regular basis. A distinctive character, wit, irreverence, and a certain je ne se quoi, can't hurt either. Contributors will not be paid, but can maintain a personal "tip-jar". BUT WHAT WE REALLY NEED RIGHT NOW IS: While several of us have strong engineering/programming backgrounds, none of us could even be considered an intern web designer. We've completed about 90% of the work for the basic blog/BBS, the kernel of the site and what we need to initially go online. But, of course, the final 10% is always the hardest. Then we will want to move quickly to implement the articles and chatroom elements. And then there are always the initial teething problems to consider. Enhancements beyond that can be pursued at a more relaxed schedule. None of this would be a major deal for a professional - rather routine in fact. But for a rank tyro, it's another matter. We need one or more individual(s) with skills in MySQL, phpBB, php-NUKE, CSS, RSS, XML, php, and general web design. This is not a paid position initially (other than tips). But some remuneration for programming services will be considered, as funds become available in the future. The principal reward, beyond personal satisfaction, will be inclusion on our administrative staff (with any further duties optional) and hence, our prestigious group of contributors. The standards for a contributor stated above can be substantially relaxed. But we do what people that can make a commitment of time, however small, and stick to it. WHAT WE'D IDEALLY LIKE IS: At least one person, or perhaps a couple, with the web design skills we require, AND all the qualifications of a contributor, AND a good chemistry and shared vision with the existing directors, to assume a co-equal position in launching this project, and guiding it in years to come. AND, OF COURSE: Contributions, from a buck in the tip jar (PayPal) , to a foundation grant, are always welcome.
