Taking webcam snapshot

Hi, i'm not sure if i have the right forum for this question, appologies if i haven't.

I have a project in which i would like a user to be able to browse to my webpage, then there would be some sort of webcam applet displaying the users webcam. I would then like the user to be able to take a snapshot of the webcam, and save that image to a server as a jpg or gif.

I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on how this would be achieved, as i dont even have a webcam applet yet.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
