Allowing execution of programs ?

Allowing execution of programs ?

I am following along with a tutorial, writing each of the examples and saving them.

In order to execute the programs from a terminal, after I have saved it I have to go to the program, right-click on the icon, and select properties. Then select "Permissions" and put a check mark in the box ,"Execute", "Allow executing file as program".

That's what I have been doing, and I was wondering if there was a method to allow the execution while writing or saving the file?
