cgi programming and shell scripts

I have a python cgi page that uses os.system() to call a shell script. that shell script calls another python script. for some reason, everything but the call to the python script runs from the shell script. any ideas?

nevermind. web page was running under a different user, so that user did not have permissions to write to a certain file.
