    Convert .py to a .exe??

Does anyone know how I can change my program to a .exe, so I can send it to other people, without them seeing my code? Do I need to download A program or something?? (I have tried saving it with a .exe on the end, but it doesnt work when I try to open that one)

    Py2exe

Hi, Fatteh. Look at Py2exe, it provides a means to compile a prython program to an exe (windows executable).

Hope this is was what you wanted,

    have fun,
    Mark.

Anybody tried py2exe ? I've stumbled on it recently, and I wondered how hard to use it is, if the .exes are big or not, etc.

    Hi,

I've used it, it works pretty well. If you read the how to on their website then its pretty simple . Of course it's a command line util so it could be easier but it works.

On the size issue all i have to say is, have you ever used Perl2exe? devide the size of that by 3 and thats about how small these files are!

Unfortunatly you do have to incude the dll that is created with the exe or it wont work.

    Hope this helps,
    Mark.

There are so many py2exe threads in this forum that a search should give you the answer.

Don't you lose Python's portability when you make an .exe using py2exe? If I am not mistaken, then you might want to consider whether you really want to do that.

in terms of people not seeing your code, you could consider distributing compiled python files instead...

then yes, i'd go with py2exe - you'll lose platform portability, but any solution not involving the python interpreter is going to lose portability (unless you find a way to export to java... :/)
