    Unhappy Don't understand syntax error

    a=1
    income = input(float("What is your income? ")
    b=0
    if(a==1 and income>=10000):
    b=b+500
    income=income-10000
    a=a+1
    if(a==2 and income>=20000):
    b=b+3000
    income=income–20000
    a=a+1
    if(a==3 and income>=40000):
    b=b+8800
    income=income–8800
    a=a+1
    if(a==4 and income>=0):
    b=b+(income*.4)
    income=(income*.6)
    b=b+1
    if(a==5):
    print(" You need to pay " ,b, " income taxes ")
    else:
    print(" You don't need to pay income taxes for any income less than 10000$ ")

    note: b was suppose to say taxes but it gave an error so I thought changing it would help
