First program - web usage

Hi all,

I have been trying to get into programming for a few years, read books on VB6 and thought that it was very good, read the beginning of C++ and C# but the problem I get with all languages is that I can never find anything to use it with so I just loose interest.

Recently started learning the basics of Python and finding it an enjoyable first language. Been thinking of a way I could use it and could really do with a way of monitoring the web pages that a user visits and the time they visit it (for windows XP/Vista)

Obviously, being new I have no idea where to start. So, if any of you kind people could tell me what I need to read about in order to accomplish my goal I would be very grateful.
