Good starting points for a newbie

Hullo all

I've been programming Perl for a few years now, and have started to get into Python too. I'm learning from the most obvious source: "Learning Python" by O'Reilly, but its a bit try and dull just reading through page after page of theory, so I'm wondering what (free/cheap) resources other people might reccomend...

I.e. good articles that will take me a little further than usual quickly, good little programs to have a look at and hack about with, good little projects to embark on, anything really At the moment I've just written an over-the-top quiz script using functions, module files, logical statements, that sort of thing. Fairly simplestuff (I'm just getting on to classes).

Are you wanting to write server side scripts or standalone scripts?

Probably more standalone scripts, as I can already do server scripting with Perl At the moment I'm quite interested in doing some GUI programming, once I sort out PyQt

I must also encourage you to learn Tkinter or even better, wxPython. Why? Well if you are planning to distribute your apps these are more common Windowing tools than PyQt. Anyway, just a suggestion.

Thanks, I'll check them out I'm going to start with PyQt for now, as I only intend to create some whims of mine that I've already done in Perl with Tkinter.
