    Playing music on a flashdrive on a raspberry Pi


    Since I am a beginner here,how does one play a mp3 file from a flashdrive mounted on a raspberry pi.

    I would look for the mp3 files somewhere in
    /media
    However, I have a linux system that is not the raspberry pi distribution, nor do I have an rpi or whatever the thing is known as.

    This is a Python Language Programming forum which has nothing to do with your question.
    RPi's run Raspbian OS which is a variant of Debian which means that most any media player for Linux will work on the Pi. If you can't get it working try one on the many Raspberry Pi forums or Google it.
    BTW, you can flash a new OS for your RPi to turn it into a full blown Media Center: http://lifehacker.com/5929913/build-a-xbmc-media-center-with-a-35-raspberry-pi
