What I'm trying to do is add a string to a string to make them equal to one another as when I pull information from my CSV File, it adds a space at the end, and when trying to eliminate the space at the end, it crashed the program.

What I have is something like this.

Code:
import urllib.request

def GetAssists():
    PlayersFile = open("players.csv")
    PlayersFileRead = PlayersFile.read()

    PlayersFileReadRowSplit = PlayersFileRead.split('\n')

    data = urllib.request.urlopen('http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/DivisionalAssists/0,,10794~20127,00.html')

    e = data.read()

    m = e.decode('utf8')

    a = m.count('<tr class="rowDark">')
    b = m.count('<tr class="rowLight">')

    splitted_page = m.split('<div class=statistics>')
    splitted_page = splitted_page[1].split('</div>')

    Points = 0

    for x in range(int((a+b)-1)):
        try:
            splitted_page2 = splitted_page[0].split('<tr class="rowDark">')
            splitted_page2 = splitted_page2[1].split('</tr>')
        except:
            break
        splitted_page3 = splitted_page2[0].split('<td style="text-align:center;">')
        splitted_page3 = splitted_page3[1].split('</td>')
        splitted_page4 = splitted_page2[0].split('<td>')
        splitted_page4 = splitted_page4[1].split('</td>')
        try:
            splitted_page5 = splitted_page4[0].split('>')
            splitted_page5 = splitted_page5[1].split('<')
            splitted_page5[0] = splitted_page5[0]+' '
        except:
            splitted_page5[0] = splitted_page4[0]
            splitted_page5[0] = splitted_page5[0]+' '

        print(splitted_page5[0])

        for y in range(len(PlayersFileReadRowSplit)):
            PlayersFileReadCommaSplit = PlayersFileReadRowSplit[y].split(',')

            if PlayersFileReadCommaSplit[0] == (str(splitted_page5[0].upper())):
                Points = int(splitted_page3[0])*2

        print(Points)

        try:
            splitted_page6 = splitted_page[0].split('<tr class="rowLight">')
            splitted_page6 = splitted_page6[1].split('</tr>')
        except:
            break
        splitted_page7 = splitted_page6[0].split('<td style="text-align:center;">')
        splitted_page7 = splitted_page7[1].split('</td>')
        splitted_page8 = splitted_page6[0].split('<td>')
        splitted_page8 = splitted_page8[1].split('</td>')
        try:
            splitted_page9 = splitted_page8[0].split('>')
            splitted_page9 = splitted_page9[1].split('<')
            splitted_page9[0] = splitted_page9[0]+' '
        except:
            splitted_page9[0] = splitted_page8[0]
            splitted_page9[0] = splitted_page9[0]+' '

        print(splitted_page9[0])

        for z in range(len(PlayersFileReadRowSplit)):
            PlayersFileReadCommaSplit = PlayersFileReadRowSplit[z].split(',')

            if PlayersFileReadCommaSplit[0] == (str(splitted_page9[0].upper())):
                Points = int(splitted_page7[0])*2

        print(Points)

        splitted_page[0] = splitted_page[0].replace('<tr class="rowDark">','',1)
        splitted_page[0] = splitted_page[0].replace('<tr class="rowLight">','',1)
And what is happening on this line

Code:
splitted_page5[0] = splitted_page5[0]+' '
is that it is adding the space onto a new line, meaning it isn't just one string, therefore meaning my two strings that I'm comparing aren't equal. My players CSV file can be found here.
Thanks.
