Alternative to java for iPhone/iPad

I am also posting this to the javascript forum.

I have a client who has shopping cart requires which needs an alternative to javascript in producing option menus in his shopping cart. Javascript and Flash do not work on the iPhone and iPad and he desperately needs an alternative.

When a menu item is selected, a sub-menu needs to appear without navigating to a new page and with the page reloading.

Help? Advice? Can Ruby on Rails do this?

First,

java != javascript

Second,

javascript works fine on iOS. It's Flash that does not.

Based on your questions, I recommend you hire a skilled web developer to make these tweaks.
