I keep on getting connection refused error when I try to deploy my Rails app to production.

Code:
/home/demianm/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p429/gems/passenger-4.0.10/helper-scripts/prespawn:105:in `initialize': Connection refused - connect(2) (Errno::ECONNREFUSED)
config/database.yml

production:
adapter: mysql2
encoding: utf8
host: 127.0.0.1
database: <db>
username: root
password: *pw*
/etc/my.cnf
Code:
[mysqld]
datadir=/var/lib/mysql
socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
