This may move a little slow for you since you already have a good grasp of programming in general, but it's a lot of fun. If you work your way to the end you should know enough Ruby to start writing simple applications. If you remember it all then you can move on to learning the APIs.

Ruby is pretty easy; some of the details, like the implications of message-based object-orientation, may take a little time to click.

Take care,

This site also comes highly recommended, although I haven't looked into it myself.

One thing to be aware of is that the Ruby language is still somewhat of a moving target and much of the documentation and examples out there on the Internet refers to older versions of the language.

The current stable version of Ruby is 1.8.6. You should ensure that you are using this version if possible.

As far as books go, the current definitive book is the Pickaxe book (Programming Ruby: The Pragmatic Programmer's Guide, 2nd Ed.,
by Thomas, Fowler & Hunt)
