Newbie to Ruby

Hi,
I have heard the Ruby on Rails quite a bit.I understand its something about web development and its open source.Can someone explain what Ruby is and how is it different from ASP or PHP.

PHP and Ruby has an on going debate about which is better. Have you tired googling this?

Im going to check it out now.By the way which one do you think is the better.

I dont feel I am yet properly qualified to answer this question. I have been using PHP for a long time now, and I am now looking to learn Ruby.

It might be worth asking some of the forum gurus

You have been warned about your attitude before. So now you are on a little vacation to think about your forum attitude.

Well ruby is currently not a big language on this forum, nor in industry come to that compared to PHP, java, c etc.
Therefore you are less likely to have people posting good replies (take a hint).

I strongly disagree. Good replies are a product of interested forum members and meaningful posts - not of the size or popularity of a particular language.

In regard to the OP, your question is worthless. Your first respondent gave you the most enlightening reply you could hope for. You mix Ruby on Rails with Ruby (they are not the same); you are asking a question with no real answer - merely opinion; googling for information gives you the most diverse input. If you really want to know the difference, educate yourself in the basic operations of each and form your own opinion.

If you hope to make anything useful out of yourself - outside of a boat anchor - you're going to have to figure out a way to become self sufficient. That means that if some forum doesn't spoon feed you the answers you expect you need to go derive them yourself.

If not so many users develop in, or use ruby then they are going to be less inclined to look at the Ruby forum, thats all I was getting to.

I will tell you what since we have had a few more thread posts there have been a lot more page views.
