RoR Problem..ish

Hey, Im working on a little rails thing and there seems to be an annoying problem, using the standard css in the public dir of the rails project i seem to have problem or two. The most important of these is when i create a post, then pull it out later using mysql, none of the carriage returns are shown, no matter how many carriage returns i use none of them show up. I would guess this is a css problem, any way to fix this? I seem to remeber somewhere back in my memory there is a tag that keeps formating, but that would only apply if this is a html problem....
