automatically generate a site map?

Hello, I'm not a developer but I know basic HTML and I like to play now and then. Does anyone know of an app (preferebly freeware ) that would let me choose a directory, then automatically generate a bookmarks page with links to all the html files contained in said folder? Is this making any sense?

I have a folder called My Web Pages, where I put all the news stories I find on the Web and want to keep. Inside this folder are different folders for different categories like culture, demographics, crime, terrorism, foreign affairs, etc. What I want is an app that will create a site map of this folder, more or less.

Anyhelp would be much appreciated.

Have you checked the 'usual suspects' - hotscripts, sourceforge, search on google, etc for an app that will do this?

I am making one for you. Could you make a sample page showing what you want the site map to look like, and I will model the output of my app to be similar to it.

Ok... I started off with the code to crawl the directory tree. I have now written a GUI to provide the user interface, and all that remains is to link the thing together. There are also a few things I need to add to the crawl code (adding functionality that I thought of when designing the GUI).

The app will not work on an internet site (obviously the only way to truly crawl an internet site would be by FTP, but this is just a quick directory list). However you already told me your files are stored on your HDD so there will not be any problem there.

K... here is my HTA site-map maker. Anyone else who is interested would be welcome to download it and try it out... be aware that it will probably stop responding if you tell it to crawl your entire hard drive, though. Or maybe it will just take all day... I have not let it go long enough to be positive it was not just working.
