In what language and how is this website created?

In DELL's official site (I can't post URLs since i'm a new user.)

When you customize a product before buying it.

    How is that done?

I mean generally. In what language or maybe some tutorials would be nice.. i don't know.

    Thank you.

If you mean the part of the site where you step through the different components of a computer and make selections for each I believe that is done primarily with Javascript.

Ah.. I thought it was something more complicated. It's pretty cool...

So what is the default language for developping web-based applications with strong user interaction? ¿AJAX, isn't it?

There's no default. Generally, pick one: PHP or ASP. AJAX applies to either.

    So (pardon my ignorance) ..

I'm having somewhat a misconception.. Isn't AJAX equivalent to PHP or ASP ?

PHP and ASP are run on the web server. They send current view of the page to the viewer.

AJAX is javascript that allows you to send new requests back to the server to reload parts of the page with out having to refresh the entire view.
