Need attractive webmail script
You may notice, I'm new to these forums. However, that doesn't mean I came just to get answers. I'll help when I can.
Anyway, I manage a mail service called Xmail ( http://xmail.us.to ) and it has worked nicely. The server is working, and my current software serves my needs--except for one thing. The current mail software is rather boring. In fact, it is beyond boring. It is actually harrassingly boring. I need a better webmail system. So what I'm looking for is a system that looks something like Hotmail's does ( Their system works nicely ) or something like Hivemail/@mail. I tried @mail, I like that system, however, that system burns holes in wallets. I'll stick with what I have. So, I need a decent looking webmail script ( PHP or ASP ). I want it to run off an IMAP account ( So users can create folders ) but if I have to run off POP3 to get a better GUI, so be it. That's pretty much what I want. I would like one that can look directly at the database in my mail server program, but I know that those are impossible to find. Iloha mail actually worked better than the others, but it still can't send mail. I also have Hivemail, but that won't connect to an IMAP server. I would like a script that is free ( Because I've blown enough money already ) if it's possible. Low cost is also an option, however, I'd prefer a free one. If anyone could find a webmail script like I have described, it would be appreciated, and if you want, I'll give you a free 5GB email account ( Regular users get 3 ) and maybe a bit of hosting space ( Heck, I got Apache, and an FTP program, put those two together and you have a hosting service right there [don't tell anyone but that's what the old Xbot Hosting Services ran off of ).Also, just some server specs: Hardware: 1.5GHz Intel Celeron Processor 256MB RAM ( Upgrade soon? ) RAID oriented HDD ( onboard ) Software: Apache 2.0.50 with PHP, mySQL, and ASP LiteServe (Still have a license, hence why it's listed) Ability Mail Server |

You seemed to list all the specs, except for the most important one... the OS
The hardware doesn't really matter.Anyways, have you had a look at squirrelmail? http://www.squirrelmail.org It's great, not too flashy gui, but it will handle all of the above requirements. In addition, there are add-ons like weather forcasts, away messages, custom gui's, secure logins, access to hotmail and yahoo accounts (*nix only currently), and several thousand more...

nutsmail == bad choice...
Quote:
Here is my experience with nutsmail. 1) The installation instructions are completely wrong. I futzed around with it for about an hour to get it working. 2) Support doesn't respond in a timely manner (It's been 48 hours since I sent an email) 3) They say things like download the latest version from our member area. But, there is no place to actually get the download anywhere on their site. 4) They had some kind of problem with their "authentication" software and it stopped my webmail services from working. (This is not an exageration, when users log into your webmail app the login page checks with nutsmail.com to see if it is "OK" for your domain to use the software.) My experience with nutsmail.com has been the biggest joke I have ever had played on me. $29 to have some eyecandy on your webmail app is not worth the headache.. squirrelmail might not be as pretty but if squirrelmail.org goes wrong your webmail app won't die too.. LOL I don't recommend nutsmail at all! |
