php hotmail system is there one?
I've looked at all the following while trying to find a solution for offering webmail. (listed in order by what I think is best).
http://www.socketmail.com/home/ http://www.hivemail.com/ http://www.v-webmail.co.uk/ Does anyone have experience with any of these. How hard would it be to self-build one of these? Would anyone be interested in creating a sourceforge project with me? There aren't any GPL type programs (I'm cheap). Also Horde looks like a kickass system but very complex to install and it doesn't seem to have a user create account feature (critical for what I need). |

I have installed/modified Socketmail Pro for several clients and I can vouch for it. It's a nice piece of software. The only slight hitch would be you need a dedicated server with root access to run it, no shared servers. I have never used the Lite version so I can't tell you if it is worth the money. It is missing a LOT of the Pro versions features, I believe.

a related question:
I am leasing a freeBSD server (dedicated hosting) on which I am hosting several clients' web sites. The server has PHP 4.x and mySQL. My package includes easy to set up POP/IMAP mail for my clients @their domain.com and I would like to offer a webmail option to my current packages. How difficult is it to create a webmail application that could interract with their current POP/IMAP mail accounts? |
