View user's file system.
Anyone know of a functionality that can allow users to view their own file system via the web? I know they're out there because I've seen them before, particularly in hotmail's new upload image system. I'm trying to find a way for someone to upload a bunch of files at once, and not by "browsing" 50 times, but just by checking off a checkbox next to each file they want and hitting "upload". Hotmail does this and I know I've seen it elsewhere lately too though I can't seem to find it. I'm sure it's some very advanced Java applet or Active X, i.e. way too hard to code on my own, so I'm looking for something packaged.
Thanks, Jeremy

There are tons of them out there but if I had to reccomend one, I would go with Lussumo's FileBrowser. Lussumo is doing some amazing things right now. Check out their other projects too.

Yeah, there are plenty of these, but this isn't what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something that display's the USER'S file system, not the web file system. KodakGallery has a downloadable to allow this to happen. Apparrently some other online photo stores have this capability as well, though some only work with IE. Note the "users" and "upload" portions of the request.

I know you can achieve that using a Java applet. I found the one that facebook uses. You go through the files in your hard drive and pick the images you want to upload. The applet then resizes the image first and then upload. Saves bandwidth and processing on their part. I'll try to find it again, it wasn't an expensive piece of software.

Ah, facebook, that was where I had seen it. Yeah, I've done tons of google searches, so if you see it let me know. I'll probably go into the facebook source and see if I can't find a creator's tag.

The one facebook uses: http://www.aurigma.com/Products/ImageUploader/
I take the "I think it's inexpensive" statement back... Something similar: http://www.jscape.com/httpfileuploadapplet/ |

Looks like this is the program itself:
http://aurigma-image-uploader.aurigma-inc-everythingcyber.qarchive.org/ for images though everything else out there is the ugly javascript uploader: http://www.javaatwork.com/ftp-java-upload-applet/details.html?gclid=CMTbpKes44oCFTQkGAodCTzN3g Guess I'll go with that though. Thanks, knowing it was an applet helped me cut down on my search terms. |

You might want to check this out for multiple file uploads (PHP+FLASH): http://swfupload.mammon.se/
