What is the best forum script?
We need a forum script..
Have tried phpbb and vbulletin..
Anyone got any suggestions as to what might be the best script around?

I personally much prefer IPB  Am using 1.3 at the moment and loving it!

vBulletin is worlds better than the competition, if you're willing to pay for it. If you're looking for a free PHP-based forum solution, IPB has features and security comparable to vB.

vbulletin is pretty active. The nice thing is you can develop hierarchies of skins right there and they inherit and no users see them until you turn them on.

It's old and redundant.
The newest incarnation is SMF
simple machines forum
It's only at RC2 but already it's set to give invision a real run for it's money and it is free.
I highly don't recommend Invision by the way. 1.3 might have been alright but IPB2 is so full of holes and crap coding it's beyond rediculous.
They've attempted to incorporate all the latest techniques and jam everything into the database no matter if it's practical or if it'll work correctly.
So what you end up with is a whole lot of @ in the code and tables that are too big to manage on most conventional hosting accounts.

Just FYI, IPB is no longer a free forum, and it's $30 more expensive then vB ($199).
