What script do I use?
Hi all,
Ok, a few things here... 1. I guess once I decide which type of code I should use for my Web Development applications, I need tho hire a screener to screen all the potential programmers I would hire. 2. I was really thinking I would go with PHP, but I've heard I should go with Postgress, but the problem with that is finding many people who know how to code with it & aren't a lot more expensive than PHP coders. I can't give you all the details of course, but I need to build 4 applications. Some of the modules can be used on all of them of course. They would all be membership sites allowing people to use features for their office, site, etc. The other 2 are directories like classifieds. 3. Do I go with an existing piece of software & hire someone to tweak it? 4. Do I look for someone who already has a library of modules? Thanks for any help you can give me. Michelle |

1. Hire a screener? Why? Isn't that something you would want do do yourself? If you are picking the programming language you want your development done in then you should be qualified to choose the appropriate level programmer.
2. PHP is a server side scripting language. Postgres is a database, not a programming language. Finding someone who codes in PHP will naturally need to know how to use postgres or MySQL or DB2 or any other kind of database in order to deliver said web application. Thus, if someone wants to charge you more because they can code in PHP and Postgres you should laugh in their face .. really really loudly. Code:
Some of the modules can be used on all of them of course. What do you mean by this? What modules? 3. I dont know, it really depends on what your specific needs are. If you are looking to sell this and make money you would need to decide on an existing framework that is open source .. and you would probably have to pay for it. Unless this existing software is very close to what you want already .. it might not be worth it. 4. Again with the modules. What do you mean? What modules? Do you know what a module is? Do you mean some one who has experience with web development and may carry around a collection of already coded functions, classes, and modules that they can use or modify for your needs? If so .. see point #2 above .. this is what a programmer does for a living. Hope that helps.
