Question Can someone please help me password protect a button on my site???

I am new to all of this and have just made my first website. I have tried contacting the hosting service that provides me with my site to ask questions and they can't seem to help me:-( What I am trying to do is I have a members area on my website that I would like to password protect the members button. i know nothing about scripts or anything about htaccess file.file or the .htpasswd file that I heard about. Is it possible for someone to help me in EASY step by step instructions? My hosting service is servage if that helps. Please help me. Thanks

do your host use IIS or APACHE?

does you server support scripting, e.g. php or asp?

from what i understand, you are only using html now?
