the only real difference I can think of, would be having to tell people your url...and their ability to remember it with a hyphen versus without.

i don't think google cares what the url is, provided it's not a hugely long dynamic url.

As far as search engines are concerned, my belief is that nobody knows for sure. I tend to separate them depending upon other factos such as if it's easily readable without the hyphens or not.
