I still submit to some article sites -- Buzzle, Ezine among only a very few others, overall about 7 in total. The reason...mostly they never go supplemental are good for being picked up and the back-links to my site still intact.

Also Articles have a short life expectancy I have found - after the original submission your site gets a small boost then settles again as well as the alerts you have put on the article - then perhaps a month or two later it get another jolt and once more the Google Alerts start flying into my email account. If your really lucky you may get a third bite at the apple before being buried for good.

That all said I much prefer to release them on my own blog then Social Bookmark them to bring the traffic directly to my site.

duplicate content

As an opposing side. Say ... devil's advocate for your idea, consider this. It is pretty common knowledge that large search engines, such as Google appreciate original content. That is to say not duplicated thousands of times. How do you figure that posting the same exact articles to 100s of directories as well as your own site will help? This can be construed as blatant spamming of an article for the purpose of SEO.

If you are going to enter the articles manually, might I suggest that you change the articles slightly at each submission... Takes more time, true, but it is fresh original content and may serve to better market your own site. (Make sure to change the link text on each article as well though)

Just a thought...

I am really surprised to read this....

I kind of thought that the articles I pay to get would be some long time source of back-links, and hence, was convinced this would bring me visitors.......

Now that I have read about the two peaks of Google alerts and traffic, I wonder if the money spent on the articles was worth it.

After all, I believe it must have been far more cost-efficient to optimize the site itself ......

I don't want to put links to my sites here because I don't want to see anyone accusing me of spamming... yet I am really disappointed to see that on my 3 sites and forums in 3 languages, I have enormous content, but could not go above PR4.
