anyone help me optimise my site?
hi, ive made a start on my website, its nothing amazing but its not too bad for my 2nd proper atempt i dont think - its basically for work ive made at college and uni.
it has a google page rank of 4 last time it was checked although i have added more since then so it may have gone up, im not sure the problem is i checked where i ranked on some search terms and all i know is thati wasnt in the first 100,000 on google, i found a site where i could check where i ranked on alxa and it was about 400-600,000 which is a LOT of pages down the list its only been online for just over a month (in the 1st month there was just over 5500 hits) so if anybody could help me to optimise this site whether its in public on this forum or in private through AIM/MSN or emails id be very happy and put a link to your site cheers tony

SEO costs quite a bit today, but some helful hits in regards to your site are below:
Optimize META tags - Title should contain a couple keywords and should be around 12 words long. Description should also contain keywords and could be up to about 24 words. Lastly, Keywords tag should contain all your keywords (up to around 48 words long) in the this format: "Keyword,Keyword phrase,Keyword keyword phrase" Body Text: Insert heading (h1, h2, etc.) tags and put keywords in them. Make sure to use all the keywords from META in your body text at least once. Putting keywords at beginning and ends of sentences helps. Try to use a keyword a few times without over doing it. You should probably have more text content on your page. Internal Linking: At the bottom of your page put a navigation menu (links) that link to other pages in your site and use keywords as Anchor text to those pages. Site Map: Make a site map page on which you list every single page of your site (make sure the anchor text has full url, ex. http://www.yoursite.com/yourpage.htm NOT www.yoursite.com/yourpage.htm). Having a site map gives robots a quick way to see all your pages. robots.txt - make a robots.txt file for your site (http://www.searchengineworld.com/ro...ts_tutorial.htm) Links: Get a few PageRank 4 or higher links pointing to your site. You should maybe put descriptions on your backgrounds and templates pages so that you have more content the spiders could index through. Hope this helps! |

The most used search engine (google) doesn't use Meta tags as they are easily abused by web developers.
I would highly recommend reading the following AListApart article. http://www.alistapart.com/articles/seo/ |

The <title> element is an important opportunity for SEO. Yours appears wasted (unless "media" and "home" are the two keywords you care about :-).
Likewise, I see no <h1> tag at all. My Googlebar claims you have PR0, but maybe it's in flux. Your home page text appears optimized for... nothing in particular. When asking for SEO help, it's typically useful to specify what particular search terms you are trying to optimize for. |
