Best Advertising for My Site?

a few questions. i am thinking of paying for advertisements, although i have many questions and requests.

i need something cheap, something that will only get interested visitors, and something that makes me pay by click (so i know i'm getting visitors).

also, i want to know what you think is more effective for the least cost for my website (viportals.com if you didnt know already, i've been spamming it on the site for a while =)...): text ads or image ads?

thanks for all your help in advance.

Whats wrong with using just Google Adwords? http://adwords.google.com/select/Login
This may be useful if you can understand it! http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/int...nse-diagram.htm

Interesting Find: Webhosts offer vouchers that you can use for Adwords. i.e. Streamline.net, UKreg and Webfusion are a few examples. The thing is, they're giving out sometimes $100 vouchers even though their services only cost $10 or so. See the trick here

Whilst you are using paid services maybe try to improve your site [in terms of keywords] so that it can grow and be found organically in search engines.
