Do I need to resubmit?
Hi,
I recently took over the administration of a society website for a sports team at a popular English University. I used to appear top or at least on the first page of Google for any of the words of the society name. It had a good google ranking of about 4 or 5 too. Unfortunately before I could get round to working on the site it stopped working. I contacted the University webmaster who told me that the site was archived because it hadn't been updated for 3 years. The whole site was down for a good couple of months. Now if you type site: www.domain/site_address into Google it doesn't return any pages (it used to return more than 100). There are still many links into the site from associated groups across the globe, but I am worried that Google, and probably Yahoo and all the rest too, is not indexing the site any longer. How do I solve this? Have I been permanently removed or will the incoming links get me back on track again? Or will I have to resubmit the site to Google? Thanks in advance. Andy

Just get the site up...update the content like mad, get some backlinks wiht strong pr's, and play the waiting game.
HTH it has also been suggested that submitting to the big SE's isn't necessary, and that it is in fact better to link up with a bunch of other sites and let google etc. find you. Good luck

You should definitely not wait for the search engines to find your website. You should register your website with search engines every 3-6 months.
It's best to do the registering by hand with the 3 major engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN). The others can be handled with a good search engine submission software. Do update your website with good related content - content is king with search engine ranking. Make sure your content includes your main keywords repeated 3 times within your text. Your title tag is THE most important tag you have so don't waste it saying: Welcome to yoursite.com or anything like that. Use your main keyword in your title tag one time (The main keyword that you've used in your content repeated 3 times). Usually a short descriptive sentence using your main keyword for the title tag is best. You can also just use several keywords in the title tag. Your other tags don't do much with today's search engines, or at least the 3 majors, but you should still use them. Here's a great article that will help you with your tags: http://searchenginewatch.com/webmas...cle.php/2167931 Google, like all the majors, has a new search engine and it's taking about 9 months to get good ranking with google. Much sooner with Yahoo and MSN. Here's links to register your website with the majors: http://www.google.com/addurl/ http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx?FORM=SBLOG After all that, sit back and wait because it does take a while to see results. submit to search engines isn't necessary for new sites or pages. Your site was removed 'cause search egnines can't find the pages. submit should help get your site back into the search engines. Get more links too.
