Does changing a google #1 website from asp to php effect results in google?

Hello;

There is a website that is already in google for the right search terms. For example in a google search pages like http://www.website.com.au/gallery.asp?id=224&action=display come up.

Now if we change this from asp to php ( and transfer all the data to a new database), are we gonna loose the google search results?

Thank you

This should be more in the SEO section but...

The short answer is YES.

The longer answer is YES - But... The rankings will recover if that's the only change that you make. You will need to be 100% sure that every URL has a 301 re-direct set up for it to point to the new page (and I mean every URL that's indexed, don't miss one). After that, wait somewhere between a week and 6 months and you should be back somewhere around where you are now.

According to me if you are just changing the extension and the database, ranking will fluctuate a bit but it will be back in couple of days.

They are hundreds of asp files. And they are located on the old server. How should I use the 301 redirect? Thanks

There will be no harm just make sure you redirect the old URL to new with 301-permanant redirection.

I haven't had to set up re-directs on a Windows server before, so I'd suggest that you ask who ever it is there that is managing the server. They'll know how to do it. If not, they aren't much of a server admin.

If you pages url will change then yes,
if it's on the same url page with the same content then no.
