Find what keywords brought a person to a site
Hello,
What is the best method to determine what keywords are used that brought a person to a site through Google? For example, if the person searched "widgets" in Google, and clicked on either a search result or an Adwords link, what could I use to determine that their search was for "widgets"?
I was thinking it may be possible to use the URL referred, but I'm not sure this is the best method to go about using. Your ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Get yourself a Google Analytics Account. They are free and you can set goals to track progress, see the keywords that brought visitors, set Adsense goals and view a whole raft of other useful info such as location, viwers screen res, refering urls, domains and so on.
Personally I think it is an absolute must for webmasters/SEOers

Is there any way that I can determine what keywords were used directly on the site? For example, if they search "custom widgets", then I could use PHP to dynamically populate parts of the site, so the main text of the page could say Your Best Source for Custom Widgets.
If they were to search "round widgets", it could say Your Best Source for Round Widgets. Basically, I would adapt the site to the customer. This is easy enough to do in PHP if I can find a way to retrieve what keywords brought a person to a site. Are there any methods to do this?

You can certainly get it from the server web logs, so yes it must also be possible to generate a home page customised to those words. Its a good idea. Has anyone tried this?
